Pucheng Clean Energy Chemical Co Ltd is reportedly operating its downstream MTO-based PP and PE units in Shanxi, China at a normal rate, although the company has shut the 900,000 tons/year upstream methanol unit due to severe coal shortage last night.
According to market sources, the company is sourcing methanol from the spot to feed the plant following the shutdown at the upstream unit.
Pucheng Clean Energy owns an MTO-based plant that consists of 400,000 tons/year PP line and a 300,000 tons/year PE unit.
Players are speculating that the company might need to reduce the operating rates moving forward, however, there is no confirmation from the producer at the time of this report.
