Shandong Yulong Petrochemical struggled to draw meaningful buying interest at its latest auction held this morning, 1 July 2025, as a firm pricing stance clashed with a weakening market.

Sentiment on the Yulong Auction Platform mirrored broader market weakness as cautious buyers held back amid falling futures, weaker spot values, and more competitive coal-based auctions elsewhere. Despite trimming offers by CNY 20–40/tonne for select grades, the producer failed to reignite demand.

“The reductions were too marginal to shift the mood,” commented a trader participating in the auction. “With downstream demand subdued and market sentiment still fragile, buyers expect further corrections before returning in force.”

Polypropylene homo film grades were the only bright spot, achieving a 40% deal ratio—though volumes remained limited. Other grades, including PP yarn and LLDPE film, saw minimal to no take-up, underlining continued buyer resistance.

Without a clear recovery in downstream consumption or a more aggressive pricing strategy, Shandong Yulong may face increasing challenges clearing stocks in the near term.
