Following reports about serious pollution in the state of Kuala Langat and Selangor caused by recycling companies in these areas, the Malaysian government decided to suspend import licenses for the importation of plastic waste carrying HS code 3915 from 114 companies for a duration of three months.

In order to resume production, these companies must re-apply for the permits and an inspection will be carried out to ensure that these factories meet several requirements including that they only import clean waste and not scheduled waste.

As reported earlier, as China put a ban on import of plastics scrap, these cargoes are flowing into the nearby market including Malaysia, Vietnam, Indonesia and Thailand.
