A deadly tsunami hit central Sulawesi followed a 7.5 magnitude earthquake on late 29 September caused nearly a thousand of casualties and the number might continue to rise. The natural catastrophe has destroyed roads and buildings in the area and mounting fear the demand for the petrochemical product would be hampered, too.

Sulawesi is one of the agriculture centers in Indonesia, supplying cocoa, coconut, and rice. “We have some major customers for woven bags in Sulawesi, however, buyers are concentrated in the Southern and Southeastern areas, where it was not affected by the tsunami,” a woven bag manufacturer in Surabaya informed.

Rescue efforts are at the high levels at the moment, and sources said that demand for plastic end product might pick up in the near to medium term as a result of cleaning and rebuilding the area.
