Malaysian PVC Market Trended Higher Ahead of February Price Announcement

The Malaysian PVC market firmed mid-week as regional sellers moved ahead of the February price announcement from a major Taiwanese producer, expected in the coming week.

Several suppliers pre-emptively lifted offers in anticipation of a broader rally. Data compiled by CommoPlast showed fresh offers for cargoes from China, Indonesia and Thailand were raised by $20–40/ton from previous indications. Buyer responses were mixed: some sought to step up procurement on expectations of a sustained uptrend through the first quarter, while others remained cautious amid lingering uncertainty over finished goods demand.

Local PP Market Gained Traction Across SEA Market

Local PP markets in Indonesia and Vietnam gathered momentum toward the end of the week after a tentative start, as major trading houses moved more assertively to lift selling prices in response to the sustained uptrend in China.

In Vietnam, buyer responses were mixed. Some end-users accepted higher offers, but pushback remained widespread, reflecting lingering price sensitivity. Market participants said sentiment could firm further if the rally in China extends into the coming week, potentially lending additional support to regional pricing dynamics.
