Malaysia’s PP, PE markets extend slide as producer cuts deepen
Malaysia’s domestic PP and PE markets remained under pressure after a major local producer rolled out June delivery offers with reductions of MYR 200–950/ton from the previous month, depending on grade. The move marked the second consecutive monthly price cut and was widely viewed by market participants as an attempt to recapture market share amid persistently weak buying interest.
According to CommoPlast data, Malaysian spot HDPE film and LLDPE film prices have tumbled around 27% from the cyclical highs seen in early April. Meanwhile, LDPE film and homo-PP have declined by 14% and 17%, respectively, over the same period.
Market attention is now centred on whether the steeper corrections will be sufficient to lure buyers back into the market after weeks of subdued replenishment activity and cautious inventory management.

A major Saudi Arabian producer has lowered June PE shipment offers to Vietnam by $300/ton for HDPE and LLDPE film and by $250/ton for LDPE film from May levels, extending the aggressive downtrend across the regional market. However, the steep reductions have so far failed to stimulate meaningful buying interest.
Market sentiment remained largely bearish, with participants expecting prices — particularly for LLDPE film — to edge lower in the coming week amid ample Chinese supply availability.
