Indonesian market whipsaws as producer reverses course within 24 hours

Indonesia's polyolefin market has snapped from bearish to bullish in a single trading day, with the domestic producer cutting prices on Monday before issuing two successive hikes on Tuesday. The reversal tracks Brent crude's push past $85 a barrel, its highest since 17 June, which has fed through to feedstock costs and boosted producer confidence, while offers reportedly thinned out fast and available volumes stayed limited in the hours after the new price list went out. China and Vietnam are showing similar upward momentum, lending the move some regional credibility, though Malaysia remains comparatively soft on healthy inventory positions among producers and converters.

The outage follows closely on the heels of a restart just weeks earlier after an extended maintenance turnaround, and sources say the back-to-back disruptions have significantly constrained Petlin's output, leaving it struggling to meet contractual commitments to buyers in both Malaysia and Indonesia.
